Infertility Treatment Gaudium Nigeria
When a couple is unable to conceive despite having unprotected sex for a period of one year, they are labeled as infertile. In case, the couples where the woman has crossed the age of 35 years, a period of 6 months of inability to conceive is regarded as the sign of infertility. The deteriorating lifestyle has been the main reason of male and female infertility being on the rise in couples around the world.
The causes of infertility are diverse; while tubal blockage, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), hormonal imbalance and structural deformities are the primary causes of female infertility, men may encounter infertility due to poor quality and low production of sperms as well as some dysfunctions. As the name suggests, ovulation induction refers to the stimulation of ovaries so that they produce numerous healthy oocytes (eggs) in a single ovulation cycle. Fertility medications are prescribed for this purpose, following which natural conception or ART is planned to ensure success. Various methods of ovulation induction are used depending upon the specific needs of the patients. While natural cycle induction follows the natural menstrual cycle, oral medications like clomiphene citrate or injections of Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH) are used for maximizing the production of eggs.
Artificial Insemination/Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Artificial Insemination or Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment technique during which the male sperms are directly transferred into the uterus to maximize the chances of conception. Commonly used in cases of male infertility, the sperms are first washed to isolate the healthy ones and these are then inserted in the uterus with a thin tube. The process is simple, painless and inexpensive and can be carried out with fresh, frozen or donor sperms.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
IVF is one of the most widely used infertility techniques for rendering solution for a number of infertility issues. It is the process of fertilization of oocytes with male sperms in a lab dish under favorable conditions. Earlier known as test tube baby, IVF has helped millions of infertile couples experience the joy of bearing their own children.
IVF is a protocol based procedure which involves a series of steps:
- Ovarian stimulation is the first step, which is involves the administration of fertility medications so that the ovaries can produce multiple healthy eggs
- Egg retrieval or surgical removal of eggs from the ovaries
- Fertilization of the eggs with sperms in the laboratory so that they can form embryos. The process of embryo culture is allowed to take place in a lab dish for a 3 or 5 day period
- After evaluating the embryos for abnormalities, the healthy embryo(s) is placed in the uterus of the woman, the process being known as embryo transfer
- The embryo (s) implants itself in the uterus resulting in pregnancy, which is confirmed 10-15 days after the transfer through a pregnancy test
Any of the surplus embryo(s) produced during embryo culture can be frozen so that they may be used in subsequent attempts.
Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
ICSI is a technique which is used to inject a single, selective sperm directly into the egg for the purpose of fertilization. This technique is used in cases where the male sperm is not healthy enough to produce a viable embryo. The embryologist detects a healthy sperm and separates it from the rest, so that it can be used to fertilize the egg. Further, the healthy embryo so formed is transferred into the uterus so that it may implant itself therein for a successful pregnancy.
Surrogacy or “rent a womb” is a procedure which makes use of a rented womb to carry a baby and give birth to it for the childless couple. Surrogacy is used in such cases where the woman is not in a position to give birth safely. The services of a surrogate mother are taken and the embryo (from the childless couple, produced using IVF) is implanted in her uterus for the pregnancy to take place.
At Gaudium IVF, patients are offered all these advanced infertility treatments from the best professionals in the industry. Additionally, childless couples are given comprehensive support and guidance to ensure a safe journey that ends with a bundle of joy in their arms.
